A Message From The CEO
Oaktree has always been centered on two principles: that extreme poverty is a great injustice, and that young people must contribute to ending it. In 2014, this looked like building a passionate base of young people, leading the movement to end extreme poverty.
Imagine being at our 2014 EndPoverty Roadtrip, it’s 7:00am in the morning, and there are 400 young people assembled on the lawns of parliament house, ready to meet with 100 members of federal parliament.
Imagine, at the end of the day, after hundreds of meetings with politicians: the Foreign Minister going on record in support of foreign aid, a conservative MP giving an interview on the importance of foreign aid and then another MP from across the floor, delivering a passionate speech about the enormous value and importance of Oaktree’s movement.
This is our movement at its best - a powerful generation of young people, filled with passion to right the injustice of extreme poverty, hope for the future, and taking informed action to achieve this end.
